Saturday Outings

My favorite thing about today was...

  • "that today was my first time riding a horse. I had fun feeding Dusty carrots. When my friends and I brushed his hair, it got all over me. I had a blast riding, too. That was the most fun of all." – Devynn, 7, Watts/Willowbrook B&G Club

  • "riding the horses and brushing Dusty because I learned new things. I like how you guys taught us to cowboy up. After, you taught me not to be afraid of Dusty. Most of all, I had fun." – Gilbert, 9, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "that I learned so much about horses, and this is the first time I ever got to feed and walk a horse. When I started riding the horse, I felt worried, but I turned out to have confidence in myself. My most favorite part was that I saw a horse that looked like a Dalmatian. I’ve never seen anything like it!" – Nicole, 9, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "I learned lots about the parts of a horse and how to ride, too. I loved meeting Dusty. I thought it was so cool that we got bandanas and we got to go for free. I was scared at first, but after awhile, I was having a great time. It was my first time riding today, and with the support I had I never even got an inch close to falling. The pictures we got were amazing, and whoever doesn’t’ want to go to Dusty’s Riders is crazy." – Kimi, 9, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "that we went horseback riding because of the experience that you have makes you feel so good. It is like nothing you have ever felt before and feeling the wind in my hair made me feel so good. But the most funniest and funest thing was playing with Dusty. I was kinda scared at first, but I got used to it because he was not going to do anything to me. I know because everytime he got close to me, he was just trying to say hi. It was the funnest trip I have ever went on." – Amanda, 10, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "how I controlled the horse while riding. The bridge was kind of scary but I handled it like a cowboy." – Emoni, 10, Watts/Willowbrook B&G Club

  • boys feeding Dusty

  • "that you let us feel like we were at home. Also, because you didn't do everything for us like a baby. You showed us how to do it, and after you let us do it. You taught us how to tell yourself you can do it. Also, you gave me another opportunity to ride a horse." – Jaylen, 11, IHAD LA Watts

  • "all I did today. It was really fun and I love the part when I met this great horse that I named “Coco”. The great part is that I rode her, and I felt great and safe on her. First, I got scared because the horses were big and I thought that maybe one would bite me, but it did not do anything to me. I was happy that Sarah helped me not to be scared anymore. Thank you, Sarah, for believing in me not to be scared." – Sandra, 11, Watts/Willowbrook B&G Club

  • "riding on a horse because it was something new & exciting. For the very first time, I ever rode a horse. I was very nervous, but I had to cowboy up and be a man. In the end, it was fun and now I know it’s safe to ride on a horse. Thank you for letting me have a new experience. I am so grateful for going on this trip. Out of all the people, I was lucky enough to go." – Ernie, 11, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "I got to ride a horse today. It was terrifying, but I did it. I used the (worry) stone and it helped me. It was fun to go to Dusty’s Riders, and the fun never stopped." – Antonio, 11, IHAD LA Watts

  • "horse riding and learning it wasn’t hard at all." – Ricardo, 11, Pasadena Boys & Girls Club

  • "Everything. I had the most fun riding the horse because it was like I was him. I had to control him with the saddle." – Deshawn, 11, IHAD LA Watts

  • "the trail ride, when I got to ride a horse for real for the first time. I enjoyed grooming and feeding Dusty. It was one of the best field trips I ever had and the people I met were very nice. They were very kind to us, and I believe that it’s really hard to meet people with such kindness in this world, so I’m really grateful. It was really kind of them to pay for everything. This trip gave me a chance to ride a horse and to get to know more about horses. Not everybody gets to ride a horse for free, or to ride one at all. My mom usually works until very late and doesn’t get vacations often so she would have never been able to take me so this was a fantastic trip. Meeting them is an honor and I hope I can see them again. I want to say thanks for everything." – Amy, 11, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "the experience. Today was my first time riding a horse and even touching a horse. It was fun to feed Dusty, brush him, lead him and even clean his hooves. I LOVED riding a horse, too. I not only rode the horse in a walk, but every once in awhile, the horse trotted a bit! I had lots of fun today. If I had a choice between going to Dusty’s Riders or any theme park for one day, I’d choose Dusty’s Riders in a heartbeat. I’m not lying! Dusty’s Riders isn’t just fun, it’s also educational. Today, I cowboy’d up at Dusty’s Riders!" – Lillian, 13, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

I thought it was fascinating. However, now I want to learn how to ride a horse to make it go faster. I think after today I will have a better appreciation for horses. When I get home, I will probably watch horse racing on TV because now my interest for them has grown. Overall, I really enjoyed today and really glad that I came out. Thank you." – Roland, 16, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "the opportunity to go horseback riding. Through my years of living, this has been the first time riding. Today gave me an opportunity to interact with the horses. These beasts are very beautiful, and to be able to interact with them was the most exciting thing. What I really liked was riding, brushing, cleaning & also feeding the horses. Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to be part of this enjoyable ride today." – Levi, 17, Variety B&G Club

  • "riding on the horse trail. It was very exciting riding on the horse that was provided to me, even though my horse was a bit stubborn. While riding on the trail I learned that not all “white” horses are actually that if they have a dark muzzle then they are called grey horses. But if their muzzles are pink then they are in fact white horses. I enjoyed myself today, and I plan on visiting the horse rental but with my sister, and hopefully she will have as much fun as I did." – DeAnna, 17, Watts/Willowbrook B&G Club

  • "that we actually got to ride the horses by ourselves. I also learned a little more about the horses and where they can’t see & how you’re suppose to groom and clean their hooves. Overall, it was a great experience that I will never forget. I had a blast with the horses especially with Dusty because I got a chance to feed and groom him. I also liked that Sarah answered all my questions that I asked and she never got mad or frustrated. We got to keep a picture of a horse with the outside body parts so we can know more about horses and that’s good." – Josue, 17, W. San Gabriel Valley B&G Club

  • "that I can have another great experience with the friends I’ve known for years now and of course my fear to overcome riding a horse. The last time I came to Dusty’s I fell off a horse, and it’s great to take in the feeling that I overcame an obstacle. My whole life I avoided as many obstacles as I could. So it’s nice that I took this fear by the reins, literally. I will always hold this memory forever. It’s a big step in my life, and it’s just the beginning. • "going horseback riding because the horse that I received was this pretty, dark chocolate horse named Roman. The worker told me that he is a leader of the pack and I could relate because I’m usually a leader. Being a leader is difficult when another person is leading, so my horse and I were a little impatient, but we got along well. He was very cooperative, calm and an amazing horse. The experience was better than I thought and I would do again. I haven’t been horse riding in a long time, but this was amazing and I enjoyed myself." – Amber, 15, IHAD LA – Inglewood
